According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Jacksonville had 6,151 violent crimes take place from January 2005-November 2005. There was a 3.8 percent increase from the following year which only saw 5,298 violent crimes take place in the exact same time period (January 2004-November 2004). Violent crimes are broke down in these categories: murder, rape, other forcible sex, robbery and aggravated assault.

Below are the number of cases for Jacksonville last year from January—November that involved violent crimes:

Murder: 84
Rape: 178
Other forcible sex: 204
Robbery: 2,062
Aggravated assault: 3,623

Information: Shot to death while standing on the corner of Washington and Shearer St. about 11:50 pm on the Westside, off McDuff Avenue on May 6, 2000

Information: was murdered August 25, 1994 at 2016 E. Market St. His wallet was stolen, and witnesses say two people left the scene in a light colored Hyundai.

Information: Tina was found, murdered, at Cecil Field December 26, 2002. DNA positively identified the remains in March 2003.

Information: This 34-year-old mother was strangled during the night and found by her little children on May 28, 2002
